LOPES THE GOLDEN BOY OF FONTANA’S SUPER D
LAGUNA BEACH, CA (March 28, 2012) Early Saturday morning Lopes decided to take the drive out to Fontana and support the 2012 California Golden State Championship presented by his long time sponsor Kenda.
With typical SoCal dry conditions, Brian loaded his Ibis Mojo SLR and signed up for the Men’s Elite Super D, a race that requires two runs on two separate courses and the winner is based on the combined time.
“Course 1 was longer by 2 minutes than Course 2. I felt tired from the extra effort I exerted from cramming in practicing & course scouting all in one day. Knowing that I had to do a second run, I played my race run on Course 1 conservatively.” Brian said.
Lopes conservative strategy paid off and got him the win on Course 1, inching out Waylon Smith by 4 seconds. The second course, while it was shorter it proved to be more technical at the top offering some flat peddling towards the bottom which lend itself for the fit Lopes. Brian produced a clean run on Course 2 and decided to put more effort into the run, once again proving to be the winning formula, clocking in with a duplicate 4 seconds lead on Waylon Smith.
Lopes final time 0:09:11
